I’m always working to improve my skills as a luthier, so this year, I participated in a week long workshop on putting patches on the inside of the plates of a violin. This isn’t something that I do on a regular basis, so it’s good to do a refresher. It involves “excavating” a dish shaped hollow, and fitting a wooden patch into the hollow. When doing the hollow, the front plate is thinned to 0.4mm! Thin enough to see light through!
